Currency
The local currency is the St Helena Pound which on island is linked at parity to British Pounds (Sterling). Sterling is accepted at all outlets but change will likely be given in St Helena Pounds.
The Bank of Saint Helena is able to exchange British Pounds, South African Rands, US Dollars and Euros for St Helena Pounds.
The local currency is only accepted on St Helena and Ascension Island. There is a Bank of St Helena kiosk at the airport.
Banking/Credit Card
International credit cards are not widely used on St Helena and there are no ATM machines. The island’s only bank, the Bank of St Helena can advance cash on Visa, MasterCard and Maestro credit cards with a 5% charge on the amount withdrawn. Minimum charge of £2.50.
It is advisable to have a supply of local cash. Local currency is only accepted on St Helena and Ascension Island. There is a Bank of St Helena kiosk at the airport.
